| The Timing Belt | In Volkswagen/Audi engines, the timing belt synchronizes the operation of the intake and exhaust valves to that of the up and down movements of the pistons. Failure of the timing belt will spell disaster for the entire cylinder head assembly or the entire engine. The result of this damage could run into thousands of dollars. It is recommended you change your timing belt at around 100,000 km. Procrastinators have gone beyond this many times by saying "I'll get it done next month" but next month never seem to come. Is that you? You could be left stranded on the side of the roadway and having to replace the entire engine. Don't let this happen to you. Because the water pump and tensioner are subject to heat and pressure, it is highly recommended they be replaced at the same time the timing belt is being replaced. Get details from your local dealership, and then compare their price to ours before giving the final approval. More timing belt details |
